I got a new laptop! Whooohooooooo Go Me!!
I’m the proud owner of a brand spankin’ new Toshiba Satellite A75-S206. I love it love it love it. My old POS was forever locking up, crashing, refusing to function, and making horrible grinding noises. I rock.

Wow….a movie….in a theater!
We just got back from visiting my parents for several days. On Thursday, my parents kept Sara for us so we could go out on a date. We had intentions of going to see Spiderman 2 but idiot me read the schedule wrong so we ended up seeing Dodgeball. HA! It was good mindless fun. I can’t even recall the last time Eric and I went to the movies together – I think it might have been while I was pregnant with Sara – and we saw Shrek. (The original, not 2!)
Friday we spent the day at Busch Gardens with my sister. Had fun and we were all worn out. I think we must have walked about 10 miles. Sara had a blast playing in “Land of the Dragons”. She road lots of rides and enjoyed petting the Clydesdales and seeing all the birds in the aviary.
I’ll part with this quote from Dodgeball… “You’re about as useful as a poopie flavored lollipop.”
Sara’s 1st trip to the ER
Something I’ve been dreading ever since Sara was born. I was hoping we’d have a couple more years to prepare for it oh well….life happens.
A couple weeks ago (June 27th to be exact) Sara went downstairs to get a toy. She came up the stairs with two and right when she got to the top stair she lost her balance and fell allllll the way down to the bottom. I ran (well, as close to a run as my knee would allow) to try and get her. I was close to catching her but she hit the ceramic tile on the landing with a thud. My screams and her crying brought Eric running down the stairs too. She seemed to be OK – no visible bumps or bruises and she was walking ok. On Wednesday she was walking with a very noticible limp and would cry if I bent her leg at the hip. By the time Eric got home from work, it was pretty bad. We decided to take her to the ER to make sure there was nothing broken or fractured. Sara was a trooper throughout all the waiting, the poking and proding and even the X-rays. No formal diagnosis was given – the x-rays showed no sign of fracture (although they told us that fractures in young children often don’t show up until they are healing). We were told to monitor her temperature to make sure there was no infection in the joint and to keep her fairly still. (HA! A 2 1/2 year old STILL?!) This doctor obviously had no children of her own. We were also told to follow up with an orthopedic doctor in several days. The ER experience was only about 2 1/2 hours – I guess Wednesday nights are relatively quiet emergency wise. The following Wednesday (July 7th), we had an appointment with a pediatric orthopedic doctor. The wait in the exam room was over an hour and I think this doctor was a quack. The x-rays we took in her office did not show any fractures either so she said she wanted us to make an appointment for a bone scan. Now, a bone scan involves an injection and then 3 hours later coming back in and lying still for 25 minutes in a tube. Alone. Now, at least during both sets of X-rays Eric was with her and they were over within a couple minutes. How the hell do they expect a toddler to complete a bone scan?!?!? The next day Eric was at work and in a meeting that was rescheduled due to Sara’s previous Dr’s appointment. One of Eric’s co-workers asked about her and it just so happens that she was an Orthopedic PA. Eric told her the whole story. She said she’d be willing to bet that it was just a ligament strain and should be better in a week or so. Guess what? She was right! Motrin and decreased activity seemed to have done the trick and Sara is no longer limping. YAY!
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
Happy Father’s Day to Eric, his father, and mine!! Hope all of you Dads have a GREAT day!
Sara’s 1st Haircut!
Sara was fed up with me constantly putting her hair in a ponytail on the top of her head. She’d pull it out seconds after I’d get it in there. Since it was the only way to keep her hair out of her eyes, we decided it was time for a haircut. We went to Cartoon Cuts in the mall. Sara was amazing. Sat in the chair, let the stylist put the cape on her, let her wet her hair and was completely still through the whole process! Didn’t even flinch when the blow dryer appeared! I guess it helped that she had her very own TV and was watching Scooby Doo! Yay for Cartoon Cuts!
Whooohooooo!!
Stitches are O-U-T!! Doc says I am healing nicely and I was able to bend my knee 90 degrees!! Yeeeee-ha! The BEST thing was taking a shower tonite WITHOUT Saran wrap on my knee!
Crutches and Percoset and bandages…oh my!
Wow. What a day it was yesterday! We got to the surgical center at 10:30 and went right to pre-op. I got to wear a LOVELY (and drafty) gown and these amazing booger green slipper socks. Loved the socks so much I wore them home!
IV started, right knee was marked with a green dot so they fixed the correct one, and I got asked a million questions. Waited impatiently for the anestheologist to arrive (Dr. Phil) and he asked me a million more questions. Waited a little longer because there was a 5 year old girl having surgery on her broken arm. It took longer than expected – I overheard the words “fused the bone” – ouch! Ok, so Dr. Phil comes in and gives me a “martini” to make me drowsy and then I’m wheeled off. I remember kissing Eric and telling him I’ll see him later. (this is about 12:30pm)
Next thing I remember is a nurse telling me to wake up and take deep breaths. I opened my eyes and it was 3:10. I kept nodding back off. She kept telling me to take deep breaths and cough. I must have done this until about 4pm. The anesthesia made me really congested and she kept checking my lungs and having me cough. I finally got to have a few sips of water. It was the best water ever – I hadn’t had anything since 9pm the night before. She then moved me to a reclining chair and brought Eric up. I got to have a coke and some crackers and a percoset. Yay! food!
After about 30 minutes of sitting up and her checking my lungs and the percoset kicking in, I was able to get dressed and GO HOME! The ride home was bumpy and painful. Too many darn potholes on Rt.7!! Made Eric stop and get me a big gulp – my throat was raw and starting to swell from the breathing tube. Got home and was SO EXCITED to see Sara. She had spent the day with our neighbor Staci. Staci has 3 girls of her own (what’s one more, right?!). Sara had a blast playing with them and didn’t want to come home. Unfortunately, she had so much fun there that she didn’t nap and was a big ‘ol grump once we got her home. We were so looking forward to bedtime! I got set up on the couch with lots of pillows, the cordless phone and ice water. Percosets are being popped about every 4 hours and so far the pain hasn’t been too severe. I will go back on Tuesday for a follow-up appointment and a dressing change.
As far as the actual procedure, Eric will have to fill you in. I remember absolutely nothing except that the tear was cut out and I had a lateral release procedure. Lateral release is an incision made in a tendon next to my kneecap to re-align everything. Ok, enough rambling from me. Eric will post a before and after picture and add details.
Thanks so much for your prayers and well wishes!
